Web 2.0 ReportI still remember when the term Web 2.0 was coined some time in 2006 by Tim O'Reilly, this give arise to heated discussions among web designers and developers across the globe. One of the "senior" web designers in one of the local Malaysia IT forum defined web 2.0 as a transition towards modern design themes such as the use of vibrant color themes, rounded borders, gradients and reflected illustration which I found too shallow in term of principles. I always think Web 2.0 as the empowerment of user participations in dictating the features and function of a website. This includes user-driven web application, social and business networking website, platform independent and many more.

Web 2.0 Principles and Best Practices Report provides clear explanation on Web 2.0 cutting through all the hype and confusion. Instead of focusing on the definition, the author identified eight key patterns in Web 2.0, issues and debates revolve around these issues, misconceptions and the practical application in real life. The eight key patterns include the collection of user data, platform, improving user experience via technology, user-driven features and development and many more. If you would like to know the details on these eight patterns of Web 2.0, I strongly suggest you to purchase this report.

This report is a valuable material for businesses to take the advantage of Web 2.0 to achieve the competitive edge. However, a thorough assessment of the tools and how this tools can improve your business in term of process, quality of services and products, product supports etc is crucial before implementing them.

My Dell X50v Thanks to my big bro for giving me his unused Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC powered by Windows Mobile 5. This is my first time using a PDA, so if you are looking for a legit product review, you can check out this great review site at Mobile Tech Review.

So, What's next?

We rely heavily on technology to stay connected and organized these days. It is quite a scary thought to think that we rely too much on technology to help us cope with life. For example, we are so used to having the information right at our fingertips and if we are left out dry without any internet connection, we feel like being 'disconnected' from the world (at least I know I am). So by introducing new gadget into our life does carry a significant risk which I am willing to take. Anyway, I do hope by having this PDA, it will help me in attaining greater control over my life and keep me up with deadlines for my studies and work insya-Allah. Read More

HTML for World Wide Web

book review HTML for World Wide Web # Title: HTML For the World Wide Web 5th Edition
# Author: Elizabeth Castro
# Paperback: 480 pages
# ISBN-10: 0321130073

All in all, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who would like to give a jump start in learning (X)HTML and CSS for web design and development. This book clearly lay down the basic principles that you need to know in designing and coding with (X)HTML mark-up language and to achieve greater control over design by implementing Cascading Style Sheets. Besides going through the syntax for CSS and HTML which sometimes we take for granted, the author also touched on WML (Wireless Markup Language) and CSS Styling for print which I found very insightful.

Bear in mind that although this book brilliantly covered the important aspect in coding for World Wide Web, this alone is not enough for you to understand fully on how the code behave in different platforms and browser. Cross-browser hacks and tricks are important to achieve a consistent layout through out browsers and these come with experiences. Therefore, it is important for you to practice, practice and practice. :)

If you would like to learn Cascading Style Sheets in details, I do suggest you to Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide by Eric Meyer. If you have any questions regarding (X)HTML or CSS, I will be happy to help you out if I can. Feel free to give me a shout.
