Slightly Bruised and Broken

Nothing can make you more perplexed than waking up one morning and reading in the newspaper that one of punk band that you have interviewed before for your ‘zine’ was beaten on stage. Although the Carburetor Dung in my personal view have evolved quite significantly since back in 2001, they still retained some form of ‘being true to yourself’ in term of their music and their act on stage which unfortunately have a bad omen for them this time.

The morale that we can learn from this story is: ALWAYS do your homework on your audience and tune your act according to their beliefs and culture so that we are not taken as being rude or disrespectful. I am pretty sure that if they performed in front of the ‘normal’ audiences who understand the culture and beliefs in the punk, this might have not happen. Perhaps it is not really a well-thought-out plan to bring a punk band to do a live performance for this event.

As usual, I just love to listen back to old Carburetor Dung's songs, so this is one of the song that I have embedded in this post with the lyric tribute to what is happening currently in my beloved homeland.

Our Voice / The Flag by Carburetor Dung

workers of the world
friends and foes before me
take a look around and think now
here’s the life we’re living
herded in like animals
fed with lies and rulings
it’s the time for us to speak now
give our world a kicking

aren’t we all the victims
aren’t we all a joke
eyes awake (but) we’re sleeping
we run

*with the hands of the world
we’ll raise this flag
hey come together
and raise this one flag
hey! people unite
and raise this flag
hey come together
we’re flying one flag
