Slightly Bruised and Broken

Nothing can make you more perplexed than waking up one morning and reading in the newspaper that one of punk band that you have interviewed before for your ‘zine’ was beaten on stage. Although the Carburetor Dung in my personal view have evolved quite significantly since back in 2001, they still retained some form of ‘being true to yourself’ in term of their music and their act on stage which unfortunately have a bad omen for them this time.

The morale that we can learn from this story is: ALWAYS do your homework on your audience and tune your act according to their beliefs and culture so that we are not taken as being rude or disrespectful. I am pretty sure that if they performed in front of the ‘normal’ audiences who understand the culture and beliefs in the punk, this might have not happen. Perhaps it is not really a well-thought-out plan to bring a punk band to do a live performance for this event.

As usual, I just love to listen back to old Carburetor Dung's songs, so this is one of the song that I have embedded in this post with the lyric tribute to what is happening currently in my beloved homeland. Read More

Fingerprint Discography 1994

Fingerprint Discography Album CoverI have been looking for this discography for more than 3 years now. Fingerprint can be considered as one of the classic emocore band from France. Back in 1995, when I first bought this album from one of the local distro here in Gombak (ASAS Distro), this album has been my favorite of ALL TIME. Since I've given away all my cassettes collection before going for my overseas program, I left with no choice but to seek for other mainstream screamo bands out there. The closest I can get is Alexis on Fire, but still their music lack of energy and their messages are a bit stale.

Last year I emailed Stonehenge Records in France to order for another copy of this album but unfortunately they have discontinued the production and they did not have any stock left. Tough luck! Anyway, cut to the chase, I've done a google search last night for Fingerprint album and manage to get my hand on this classic emo album thanks to the guy who run My Sound System blog who kindly uploaded the album for public download. You can download the file directly via this link.

Fingerprint: Messages behind their music

This excerpt from burning down the dreams of forever blog provide a good explanation on the messages behind Fingerprint music

Fingerprint were France's answer to the emotive hardcore explosion of the 90's, singing in a mix of english and french, they would prove alienation wasn't just a product of the good ol' U.S.A., instead a universal language, spoken around the globe. They called for tolerance in a time without, seeking their own definition of personal freedom, and all for good cause.

I also have uploaded some Fingerprint songs from the album and embedded an mp3 player at the bottom of the right column for you guys if you would like to listen to this great band. Enjoy!

Merdeka?

Merdeka Being lack of patriotism as my usual self, it is not so me to ponder about “Merdeka” or independence. The 31st of August 2007 denotes the 50th anniversary for our country independence from the British ruling. If you would like to assess the “performance” of a country by physical development per se, we can say that our government has done a satisfactory job.

In the other hand, it is rather sad to see how the future generations drown in the world full of entertainment and material thus giving birth to an obsessive-compulsive-artist-idolization-people. Day after day, we slowly consumed by this material-oriented thinking by adopting the classic American dreams into our mission of pursuing of the true meaning of this life.

We can always shout the word ‘Merdeka’ as loud as we can, but is it true that we are independent? Can we really express genuine and original opinion or do our opinions only revolve around what we have been molded by the external factors? Ask ourselves, are we being true to ourselves or are we conforming to others for the sake of acceptance? Think again, in what sense that we achieve 'merdeka' then?

There is nothing more necessary than truth, and in comparison with it everything else has only secondary value. This absolute will to truth: what is it? Is it the will to not allow ourselves to be deceived? Is it the will not to deceive? One does not want to be deceived, under the supposition that it is injurious, dangerous, or fatal to be deceived. (Nietzsche, 1890)
